Standard Precautions And Infection Control And Prevention Requirements SUMMARY
Updated 03/05

It is the responsibility of each member of the JHH system to follow STANDARD PRECAUTIONS and to prevent and control infections in patients, visitors, and staff. The following infection control policy was established to facilitate the identification, prevention and control of infections that could potentially be transmitted to patients and staff within the JHH.

Standard Precautions are designed to reduce the risk of transmission of microorganisms from both recognized and unrecognized sources of infection in the hospital. Simply put, Standard Precautions means putting a barrier between the health care worker and the blood or body fluids of any patient.

The Hepatitis B vaccine is available free of charge to ALL JHH personnel. Call Occupational Health (OH) at x 5-6211.

If you sustain a bloodborne pathogen exposure (i.e. needle stick, splash to the eyes, nose or mouth) call the STIX Hotline (x 5-STIX). See also Diseases Exposures for more information.
