Multiple dose vials (MDV) may be the source of infection when microbial contamination occurs.

Infection control measures which eliminate / reduce the risk of transmission associated with MDV includes:

• Use single dose vials unless unavailable
• Discard for known or suspected contamination
• Cleanse diaphragm with 70% alcohol
• Use sterile device to access vial
• Follow manufacturer’s recommendation for

  • Refrigeration
  • Expiration date
